Preparing food while you are on a sailing holiday is different than at home. It can also be difficult, especially if you are not the most experienced chef, to begin with. However, it is not impossible, and it can even be fast, easy and delicious if you have the right recipe!

We will start with something easy that is also a typical starter dish. Imagine you are sailing in Greece, you have access to all the fantastic local products such as cheese, fresh tomatoes, delicious olives, and olive oil. It’s the perfect place where you can get ingredients and prepare a typical Greek salad that will amaze everyone on board.
- ½ cup extra virgin olive oil
- ¼ cup red wine vinegar
- ½ cup balsamic vinegar
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground pepper
- 1 large head romaine or other greens
- 3 Roma tomatoes
- 1 cucumber, peeled, quartered, seeded, and sliced
- 1 red onion
- 1 green pepper
- 1 cup black olives
- ½ pound feta cheese
First, prepare the dressing. Mixing all the ingredients until the consistency is smooth. Leave it to chill so that the flavors blend well. Next, tear greens into small pieces, big enough to bite. Cut the tomatoes. Peel the cucumber, then cut it. Cut red onions into slivers. Remove the seeds of the green pepper and cut into thin strips. Place everything in a large bowl and add the olives. Before you serve it, pour the dressing on top and mix the salad. You can then sprinkle some delicious Greek feta on top.
Grilled Tuna Bruschetta
This next meal can act as a second step of a five-course meal because the start is the Tuna or any other white fish of your choice. It’s the perfect thing to prepare because it is keto-friendly, gluten-free, dairy-free and boat-friendly so that it will fit everyone and it will be easy to make. If you are sailing in the Canary Islands, Spain consider yourself even luckier because this is one of the best places in the world where you can fish for tuna or buy the most delicious fresh fish.
- 2 Tablespoons Olive oil
- 1 Tablespoon Wine vinegar
- 1 Teaspoon Minced garlic
- 1 Teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ¼ Teaspoon Salt
- ¼ Teaspoon Black pepper
- ¼ Cup of tomatoes, finely diced
- ½ Tablespoon Green onion, sliced thin
- 8 Ounces of Tuna steaks
Mix 1 tablespoon of olive oil, garlic, vinegar, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, tomato, and green onion together. Refrigerate this while you are grilling the tuna steaks. Remember, grilling is the best way to cook on a boat because that way you can be on deck and not get the inside of the ship too hot.
The grill has to be preheated. Before you grill brush the tuna steaks (1 per person) with the remaining olive oil. Grill for 5 minutes per side or cook according to your preference. Usually served rare to medium. Top the grilled tuna steak with bruschetta. You can also add feta on top if desired.

This main dish is effortless and perfect for preparing if you are sailing in Italy, the home of pasta! It’s not the most low-carb dish; however, it’s delicious, and this lazy way of preparing it is perfect for making on the stove, in an unusual size pan, and on a boat!
- 1 pound rotini or other medium-size pasta
- 1 pound ground beef, turkey or Italian sausage
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 24 ounces spaghetti sauce
- 8 ounces ricotta cheese
- ¼ cup Parmesan cheese
- 8 ounces shredded mozzarella
Cook the pasta, then drain the water. Place in a large bowl. While the pasta is cooking, you can crumble the ground beef, then sauté in oil over medium-high heat until it’s brown. You can also drain the meat from excess before adding it to the bowl with pasta. Pour three-quarters of the spaghetti sauce in the container. Add the ricotta, the Parmesan and half the mozzarella. Mix it well.
If you want to heat the Lazy Lasagna in the oven (no need to preheat, bake at 350° F. for 30 min.) on your boat, select a freezer-proof baking pan. If you plan to heat it on the stove or microwave (10 to 20 min.), select a freezer-proof plastic food storage container. No matter which one you choose make sure the container is slightly larger than the volume of the dish. Place the pasta and sauce mixture in the pan you chose and pour the rest of the sauce. Sprinkle with the mozzarella you have left.
No-Bake 18+ Bonbons
Last but not least we have a super easy and fun dessert recipe for you! This is the perfect dish to make on board because it requires no baking and it doesn’t take much time either. These bonbons are a super sweet threat we can see you enjoy while sailing in France, where they first originated in the 17th century, made at the French royal court. These bonbons are made with alcohol; however, that can also be replaced by orange juice and enjoyed by everyone.
- 3 cups of crushed vanilla wafers (or some vanilla cookies)
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 1 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped finely
- ½ tablespoons cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons corn syrup
- ½ cup rum, bourbon, Triple Sec, Grand Marnier or orange juice to make it suitable for kids
- ½ cup powdered sugar, cocoa, finely chopped nuts, coconut, sugar or sprinkles
Crush the vanilla wafers by placing them in a bag (or use a blender). After that put them in a medium bowl and add the powdered sugar, nuts, and cocoa powder. Mix everything very well.
Next, mix the corn syrup and the alcohol of choice in a small cup. Add the wet mix to the dry mix and swirl around. It will be very stiff, but you just have to keep mixing. Sprinkle an ungreased pan with powdered sugar or cocoa, press the mixture into it so that it forms an even layer, then sprinkle powdered sugar, cocoa, nuts or sprinkles on top. Cut into small squares. Place on a plate or piece of baking paper and let it dry for 1 hour. After that, you’re all set!
